Sharing My Music
Recently, I’ve been searching for great musicians to create a band, and I recorded a demo track to present “my sound”. I recorded it on my computer in my living room. I sang, played and arranged everything on it. It was so much fun to write and record! I’m working on more demo songs and getting in touch with many musicians in the New York area. I’m very excited about it all. I’ve been receiving lots of positive feedback on it. As music has come alive in my life again, I’ve also been taking a very cool songwriting class with some really lovely people at Gotham Writer’s Workshop in New York. I’m learning so many different ways to write songs and so much about the music industry. I might even attend a songwriting camp in Nashville one of these weekends. It’s all an adventure!
So many people have been very supportive of my “getting back” into playing music, writing and singing. The Kanes Workshops have played such a huge part in supporting me in “going for my life”, regardless of what I’m doing in a given moment. The workshops have taught me that enjoying life and going for what I want doesn’t have to be separate, and it doesn’t have to be a struggle.
The Kanes have taught me to be aware of the stereotypical “artist” thoughts, expressed in the story: “But I want to be an artist!” It’s about how an artist may believe that doing his art is better than his “day” job. If an “artist” views events in his life through a filter based in his preferences, it may actually hinder being artistic and producing art. This is a concept I never knew existed until I was introduced to the Kanes Workshops.
I no longer see my job as my “day” job. I’m a System Administrator in the Information Technology department at a law firm. It’s an awesome job in the NBC Building in New York! I’ve discovered that the more I become engaged, passionate and take pride in accomplishing things in my job, I accomplish more with my music too. It’s so cool! Here’s my demo song. Enjoy! ![]()

Great story, and song!
Thanks for sharing. This reminds me of the idea that how you do one thing is how you do everything. By being fully engaged when you’re at work, you’re able to be fully engaged in your music, and other areas of your life. and magic happens.
