Cleaning house! from Madhu in Queens, New York
Dear Transformation Community,
A couple of weeks ago, I was in the Key Food grocery store by my house and as I was leaving, I noticed on the bulletin board a dazzling ad that caught my eye. It was for a housecleaning service. It said, “I will make your place sparkle!” with a very nice font. Below is the ad for you to take a look at.
The funny thing is that for quite some time now, I’ve been thinking about getting my place cleaned by someone. I’ve been resisting cleaning my place myself and I just thought it would be easier to pay someone to do it. But I resisted even doing that with thoughts of “Why should I pay someone else? it’s my place. It’s not that big. I should be able to do it myself,” etc. Anyway, the one thing I couldn’t resist was this ad. It was like it was meant for me! So I called the lady Nancy and she came over and she cleaned like a demon. She did a great job and she was very professional.
The great thing was that I even got into the act and went into the spare bedroom which I avoid going into because it has so much clutter and I didn’t want to see it. But that day, I went in there and put labels on my folders, and did a massive cleanup: shredding old documents and statements, setting up a spare TV and DVD player, getting my college diploma framed(!), etc. The work continues. I am now cleaning up my closet and re-organizing. I also gave away old books and electronic equipment. (I’m sure someone in my apartment complex is grateful!)
I also have a video game system (Playstation 2 with lots of accessories) that has outlived its usefulness. I simply looked and saw that I’m done with it. So I’ve put it up for sale and it will give me back a lot of space.
I also came across a lot of old journals and took a peek. And that’s all I could bear to do! I had pages and pages in book after book of working on myself. It was unbelievable! I’ve thrown it all out! Some of it was vitriol directed against my dad and I couldn’t even believe that it was me who wrote all that.
My relationship with my dad has never been better and I truly enjoy spending time with both my parents. Our relationship has gotten so much sweeter.
Thank you Ariel & Shya for blazing the path and for teaching us that life recognizes our hearts’ true desires and supports us even when we least expect it. And thanks to everyone in the community with whom it is such an awesome privilege to know and to share my life with.
Love,
Madhu
